Founded Here.
By Baylor Men.

Phi Kappa Chi began with two students, a Christmas break, and a conviction that something was missing. It has never existed anywhere but Baylor.

Our Founding

Born From a Conversation

Four months separated the first conversation from the charter — the fastest a fraternity had ever been chartered at Baylor.

A conversation on the way home

Ty Bollinger and Trent Hampton met for the first time to formally discuss an idea. Both men felt an unfulfilled need in their college lives, and on the way home for Christmas break the two spoke of the possibility of starting a new fraternity. Over that break, much of the planning was done.

Philos Kruxos Xristos

At 2:45 in the morning, the two founding fathers coined the name Philos Kruxos Xristos — brotherhood centered on Christ. It is the name the chapter still carries.

Twelve men in a basement

The very first meeting was held in the basement of Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business. It consisted of 12 men. Over the three months that followed, the group met repeatedly with the Director of Student Activities to organize a charter and constitution.

The charter is granted

Baylor University officially granted Phi Kappa Chi its charter — the fastest charter that had ever been granted to a fraternity at Baylor. Unlike a national chapter, Phi Chi was founded here, by Baylor students, for Baylor students, and it exists nowhere else.
